I am part of those who are aware of the relevance and preciousness of the existence of trees and the ecosystems they embody, and I see myself as obliged to react. I am a kind of Curupira, guardian of the forest and deforestation. Almost every day I hear chainsaws…
It was at the intersection of this need for reaction and the rediscovery of the book “the secret life of trees” by Peter Wohlleben that the idea was created. As a member of Assobio, an association that defends and enhances the environment, we ask the following question:
– If we want to talk about trees, aren’t they the best protagonists to question their own existence?
I made a list of questions, which arose from reading the book, and together we found the space and the people to develop intervention work for public space. At the first meeting, on February 6th, a group of woman were present to discuss and decide how the work would be developed. We agreed that the bands would be crocheted in “rags”, and that each of us would adopt a question. We agreed to meet every Monday at Club Fãozense to show what we were doing at home and review details. There is a surplus interior knitwear factory, which we combined with those that had raw materials at home. We store huge bags, wind endless threads, talk about the village and lives, ours and those of the trees. The group was called: collective of Fão trees.
